  • Pharmaceutical consultant. Expert in Medicines Supply Management, National Medicines Policy development and implementation support, access to essential medicines, financing, budgeting and selection of essential and priority medicines.
  • Marianne Schürmann's short-term consultancy assignments include participation in pharmaceutical sector reviews, evaluation of medical stores, development of alternative financing systems, design and implementation planning of harmonised supply systems; and preparation of pharmaceutical supply tender dossiers (EDF funded). Within the context of public-private-partnerships she participated in the evaluation of a pilot project for certification of rural drug shops and in a feasibility study for local ARV production.
  • Previously, Marianne Schürmann worked as a long-term pharmaceutical consultant for the Ministries of Health in Gambia and Namibia. Her areas of responsibility included all aspects of medicines supply management in the public sector. During her assignment in Namibia she was the Technical Advisor to the Ministry's essential drugs programme. Her work focussed on the development of the National Medicines Policy and related implementation plan, design and implementation of in-service training on rational use of medicines and supply management, and the establishment of medicines use indicator surveys.
  • Her field experience is mainly focussed on Africa: Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania , Zambia and Zimbabwe.
