Mrs Martine Vandermeulen, Anthropologist, Archaeologist, MPA, Office Manager, Expert in NGO Programming, (º1957)
- Her main task is the organization and management of the HERA office. She's responsible for the identification and negotiation of new contracts, the tendering, the identification of clients, partners and consultants, the networking and the follow up of short and long term assignments. She's the permanent secretary to the Board of Directors and the General Assembly.
- At present Martine is President of Be-Cause Health, a Belgian informal and pluralistic platform, which main objective is strengthening the effectiveness and the role of various actors in the Belgian development cooperation and making quality healthcare accessible worldwide.
- For more than ten years, Martine Vandermeulen has worked as independent consultant on behalf of the Belgian Development Cooperation for the review of the NGO 5 year programs and annual action plans. She was member of the Development Cooperation Task Force on harmonization of the annual evaluation of program documents of 85 NGO's . From 1999 to 2004, she was also President of the NGO Advisory Board which acts as a direct advisor to the Minister of Development Cooperation in Belgium and to the various parties involved with Development Cooperation. Currently she is President of Coprogram which is the federation of Flemish and bilingual non-governmental organizations for development cooperation in Belgium. The federation defends the interests of its members, the NGO's, in their relations with the Belgian federal and the Flemish authorities.
- Martine worked as scientific coordinator in the EC DG Research for Developing Countries. She was in charge of the Identification of Scientific Networks, preparation and presentation of EC's programme in workshops, seminars and international conferences; identification of experts in the field of Medicine, Health Services and Nutrition.
- Her field experience is mainly in Southern Africa. She was Regional Coordinator for a Belgian Health NGO based in Zimbabwe covering also Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia and Namibia.
