• More than 35 years professional experience both in the Netherlands and abroad (Malawi, Fiji, Cambodia and USA).
• Experience involves clinical work in primary medical care as well as in secondary medical care. Experience in health insurance systems. Experience in planning and development of health care systems, manpower and facilities planning.
• Throughout his career Jan was involved in training and coaching of personnel and young academics.
• Project management, project evaluation.

During the last 15 years he implemented a large number of short-term consultancies in many different countries especially in Eastern European countries (Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Moldova, Russia); Middle European countries (Czech republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia); Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Mongolia, the Philippines) and the Caribbean (Curacao, St. Lucia, St. Martin, Suriname).

Contents of consultancies were often focused on rationalisation (optimisation) of the health care delivery system, development of masterplans for countries or provinces and large cities. Other subjects were payment systems, primary care introduction, accreditation system, financing systems for the health care system and the development of building plans for hospitals.
