Dr. Gimono Wamai is a researcher, evaluator, facilitator and trainer, public health specialist, and medical doctor.
Since the beginning of 1995, Gimono has been a freelance consultant and partner in the Creative Research and Evaluation Centre, Kampala. She is an expert in public health, involved in operational and baseline research studies, evaluations and reviews, and capacity building/training, particularly on issues related to research skills, project planning, M&E, and HIV/AIDS. In health, she has worked on assignments related to primary health care, tuberculosis, eye care, sanitation and epidemiology. She has also been involved in preparing national policy documents in eye care for Uganda.
In the area of HIV/AIDS, Gimono has had a special focus on prevention, community management, and adolescent sexuality. Since 1997, she has been the long term technical advisor to the Kagera Zone AIDS Control Programme in northwestern Tanzania, supporting them via periodic visits for support supervision, and assisting with participatory research and strategic planning. The programme is supported by the ELCT and DanChurchAid/Danida. Beginning in 2006, she is a member of the Independent Review Team providing biannual technical support to the Malawi National AIDS Commission, funded by the Global Fund and Government of Malawi.
Gimono is based in Uganda, and has also done consulting work in Eritrea, Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. She is fluent in English, Kiswahili, Lugisu and Luganda.
